Over the last years there has been a significant number instances of mangrove clearing without planning approval and with "after the fact" permit requests being submitted. The Mangroves Conservation Plan would make mangrove clearing without permit a serious offence and in addition also provides guidelines and strict rules to property owners for hand trimming mangroves.
The National Trust is a non profit, membership organization established in 1987 with the purpose to preserve natural environments and places of historic significance for present and future generations of the Cayman Islands. The National Trust has designed a special program to procure still pristine mangrove land in the Central Mangrove wetland area that is currently at risk of being developed as large areas stand unprotected.
The Global Mangrove Alliance is an initiative of the WWF, IUCN and BMZ with the goal of creating a knowledge hub of information around Mangroves, their signficance and best practices in Mangrove Restoration and Conservation from around the world. Their website provides a rich set of PDF brochures, news articles and case studies.
Wetlands International is global non-profit organization that brings together communities, provides funding and education, with the goal of restoring mangroves and reversing the trend of wetland degradation and destruction that is happening around the world.
